Amanda’s experience is all about how to keep calm during an emergency and the connection between the brain and body during times of stress. While hosting her experience, she met Amy, a Kudoer that has a passion for the Canadian military and writing. Amanda has always been community minded and working at the YMCA she gets to meet a lot of different people. Through hosting, she gets to go deeper, “Our conversation carried us into topics like difficulties with making friends and building social networks for neurodivergent people, the effects of trauma on fear response, to ableism in our society.” This conversation has gotten Amanda thinking differently about the way she’s navigating her own way through society. “I reflected on my own friendships and social circles, how I can do a better job in my life about being mindful during conflict and aware of people who are being left out. I also thought about how our society isolates people and thought about areas in my own life where I can help myself and others avoid that.”volume_up
