Background

Who we are

Kudoz is a first-of-its kind social start-up, embedded within three large developmental disability service providers. We are a team of designers, sociologists, teachers, and community mobilizers trying to shift outcomes for adults living with cognitive disabilities, their families, and the broader community.

What we do

Kudoz enables adults with developmental disabilities, their families, staff, and community volunteers to experience the surprise, discomfort, and joy of learning. We host an online catalogue with 100+ in-person learning experiences, facilitated by community members with passions to share. We support adults to use the catalogue, and our App, to widen & deepen their interests; grow their social networks; develop soft & hard skills; and build their reflective muscles. We do all of this because we think everyone should have a life filled with growth and novelty and joy.

What is the team like

We are a team of designers, teachers, community mobilizers, lyricists, cyclists, and mad bakers. We don’t just bring part of ourselves to work, we bring it all: the good, the quirky, the wildly unimaginable. We work hard and we learn hard. Whether it’s putting on a growth mindset party, having karaoke showdowns, or organizing RV outreach tours, we’re all about challenging ourselves to grow and reach new heights. The question is: are you ready for a challenge?

Why you want to be a part of this

Because it made a whole lot of difference for people like Jay and many others like him!

We have completed the hiring process for our Learning Coach position. Thanks to all the applicants for applying.

Looking for a tech residency in a social start-up? Kudoz needs a Tech Coach.

The role: Volunteer Tech Coach

We’re cooking up a new residency for 2017. It’s a unique opportunity for a tech savvy student wanting experience with a social services startup. We’re asking for a 3 month commitment. This will be an awesome resume building opportunity.

As our Tech Coach, you will primarily support adults with a disability to use apps to respond quickly, stay organized and collect media to reflect later. You will run coaching sessions, host tech focused experiences in the catalogue, and do first hand user research, reporting trends in user behaviour and considering new features.

You will also gain experience working on our internal tech stack:

  • Ruby on Rails
  • JS/JQuery
  • MySQL
  • Twillio
  • Mixpanel

… & all the amazing tools we use to keep things moving smoothly.

What we offer

Experience working with an international team at the forefront of social design. We’re an international team of designers, doers and social scientists, working with developers, researchers and filmmakers. We operate from our studio in Burnaby (Metro Vancouver).

Exposure our work features in design journals and at conferences, and so will yours. This is the year Kudoz is getting traction. We’re shortlisted for an international Service Design Award alongside leading design agencies. In Canada, we’re held up as a case study of a new kind of social service, with the promise to change the existing system. And we’re about to receive investment for another two years.

Impact you’ll be able to see your work and it’s impact in the real world.

A big part of our work is testing directly with ‘real’ users — people with disabilities, their families, staff, and volunteers. We’ve been live prototyping for two years with about 200 users. Over that period we’ve designed several versions of a website, a mobile app and lots of printed materials. You would help us to test our back-end system to find gaps and opportunities for improvement.
