Growth is at the core of Kudoz. We’re not just about fun activities; we’re about connecting people to experiences that help us to grow and flourish. A flourishing life is a life where we feel good about ourselves and the direction we’re heading. And for that to happen, we need a sense of competence and control. We can look to the science to help us figure out how to enable people to feel more capable and in-control. There’s a theory called Learned Hopefulness coming from a discipline known as Positive Psychology; it says people can learn problem-solving skills that put us in the driver's seat of our lives.
Learned Hopefulness stands in contrast with theories on Learned Helplessness, which focus on all the stuff that stands in the way of us exercising control. Sometimes social services can reinforce feelings of helplessness by doing things for people, rather than coaching them to do things for themselves. At Kudoz, we provide motivational coaching based on Positive Psychology principles, working with people to practice making choices, to express their needs & wants, and to overcome challenges. We’re all about strengths and resiliency. The experiences Kudoz offers are a safe space for trying some of these skills out and feeling empowered. Our goal is for people who use Kudoz to gain a little more mastery over what they do and the places they go.
